story
you make it,
you can show it here
It started in 2021, in the middle of the NFT boom. The first Subjective was a coworking space and club for creatives inside LUME Studios at 393 Broadway. Then it became a place for digital art shows. Then it became a gallery. Anyone making work could show it. No fee, no velvet rope, nobody deciding who was ready.
From 2022 to 2024 the shows got bigger. Subjective Gallery ran monthly sessions of generative art, AI art, video and performance, and during NFT NYC and Frieze week we opened the whole building at once: the screen gallery in the basement, the wraparound projection room on the ground floor, paintings and prints on the floors above.
In September 2024 it all went into one weekend, the first Subjective Art Festival. Since then we have stopped curating our own shows. The rooms are still here, and so is the record of everyone who showed in them.
